Episode #28 – Cannabinoids (THC, CBD), Substance Abuse, and Mental Health

Theres lots of talk and debate about medical marijuana and cannabinoids these days. But how does THC and CBD for medical uses relate to substance abuse issues and how can cannabinoids be used to treat mental health issues or can it? While the body of research continues to grow many studies are animal based and there are other issues such as quality of product, dosage, etc.

In this episode we talk about some of these issues and try to see cannabinoids and mental health Through a Therapist’s Eyes!

  1. In episode 28 Cannabinoids you mention the power of the placebo effect. I recommend taking a look at the podcast Adam Ruins Everything episode 45. A Harvard doctor explains that that placebo effect is far greater than we thought. It is becoming a problem for pharmaceuticals.

  2. What a superficial conversation…I thought we would get some new insights. I do not tune into podcasts to get unsupported views of professionals who “just studied up on this for the podcast”.
I am really disappointed with the level of the conversation and the posing of “opinions” as facts.
Marijuana is used rampantly with way less societal impact and is an untapped source of income to use for real research and real data.
    Very disappointed.

    1. Dr. Jacobson,

Thank you for your feedback. We use feedback, good or bad, to try to make the show better.

While I disagree we posed “opinions” as facts I do agree with some of what you say and I see your point! Chris and I have talked about this show and are working to do a followup with a guest who is an expert in the use of THC and CBD for medical and mental health treatments. Hopefully you’ll stay with us and have better feedback when that show is published.

      Thank you again,

      Craig

  3. Thanks for sharing this.

I am absolutely confident in the positive impact of CBD (as a healthy supplement) on the mental health of a person. I have little experience (I found CBD oil for myself about a year ago) of using this supplement, but I can note only positive aspects.

    Regards,

    Tom
