Listen for the following takeaways from the Show:

  • Anne felt like she needed more and that calling led her to help build the counseling services at Catherine’s House.
  • Just like a lot of societal problems, you don’t really know what’s is going on with homelessness until you get involved with it.
  • “The key to ending homelessness would not by money, it will be relationships.” ~Anne Jurchak
  • Homelessness is a condition people are in and not who they are.
  • There are three different levels of homeless – Traditional, Episodic, and Chronic Homelessness
  • Transitional Homelessness – this is a temporary situation and equates to about half of those dealing with homelessness.
  • Episodic Homelessness – This is when a person goes from homeless to not over an extended period.
  • Chronic Homelessness – When a person has been homeless for 5 years or more.
  • Anne’s take on the core key to homeless is Trauma.
  • She thinks you have to find out why they are in the position to know how to help.
  • Sometimes too much support can be toxic to the people dealing with a lot of trauma.
  • When a person does not feel safe, they will not take risks so they have to re-establish that sense of safety to help them move forward.
  • When a person sees a lot of people workign with them and helping them, it can be restorative for that person.
  • If a person is emotionally, mentally, or spiritually drained because of Trauma you cannot plan and follow logical steps.
  • Trauma informed care and interventions are important to know so you can help them build back up.
